PRDA’s journey began in the wake of a crisis that deeply affected communities in Bishnupur, Manipur. In 1983, the construction of the Ithai Barrage led to widespread flooding and submergence of fertile agricultural land, particularly in Ishok village. Year after year, families faced crop destruction, loss of livelihood, and the spread of waterborne diseases.
In response to these challenges, a group of determined young people from Ishok village came together to take action. Driven by concern for their community, they began working to address the impacts of flooding and raise awareness about local issues. This collective effort led to the formation of the Ishok Makha Young Development Club (IMYDC) in 1988.
As their vision expanded, so did their mission. In 1995, the group evolved into the People’s Resource Development Association (PRDA), formally registering as a non-profit organization. What started as a local youth initiative has since grown into a committed organization dedicated to empowering communities and promoting sustainable development.
